Nalbandian out of Davis Cup match

Argentina's David Nalbandian has been ruled out of the Davis Cup tie against the Netherlands in Buenos Aires through injury and team captain Modesto Vazquez said he hoped Juan Martin del Potro would agree to replace him.

Argentina's David Nalbandian has been ruled out of the Davis Cup tie against the Netherlands in Buenos Aires through injury and team captain Modesto Vazquez said he hoped Juan Martin del Potro would agree to replace him.

Del Potro, Argentina's number one, had originally been left out of the team by mutual agreement amid widespread speculation that he had fallen out with Nalbandian.

"Physically, Nalbandian is not in a condition to play," Vazquez told a news conference yesterday. "He still has a virus."

Asked if would consider Del Potro, Vazquez replied: "Obviously... we are waiting for a response from some players.

"This is an emergency," he added.

Vazquez could also turn to Jose Acasuso who was also left out of the original team.

Juan Monaco, who has also been in doubt because of an inflammation in his left leg, said he was almost certain to play in the first-round tie at the Parque Roca clay court from March 6 to 8. - Reuters
