Controversial kwaito artist Mgarimbe has been exposed as an irresponsible celebrity who drives a car without a licence.

But his nocturnal activities landed him in hot water when police arrested him in Auckland Park on Sunday. Mgarimbe, real name Nkosinathi Mfeko, was charged with reckless and negligent driving and driving without a licence.

Mfeko made headlines when he released the controversial and vulgar song Sister Bethina. The popular muso of Lomhlaba Uyahlaba fame was scheduled to appear in the Hillbrow magistrate's court yesterday.

After consulting his lawyer, Tobela Matshanda, the musician agreed to pay a R1000 admission of guilt fine.

Asked if Mfeko had a valid driver's licence, Matshanda said: "That is a private matter, so I will not comment."

Mfeko initially denied any knowledge of the case when Sowetan telephoned him.

"I don't know what you are talking about because I was never in court," he said.

He later changed his story and said: "I was coming from church when they arrested me. Write what you want but my life is progressing very well."

Mfeko's arrest comes just days after another popular musician and radio and television personality, DJ Sbu (Sbusiso Leope), allegedly crashed his VW Polo into the back of a stationery ADT security van, leaving three guards injured.
