Thus, we are shocked by unsavoury developments at yesterday's ceremony in Durban, where some of the representatives of the ANC, IFP and Cope engaged in mud-slinging.
Instead of deferring to the electoral code of conduct they had just signed, some of the representatives launched into a tirade of verbal attacks which marred the spirit and symbolism of the pre-election accord.
Lost to these politicians was the importance of maintaining the precarious peace that still obtains in the troubled province.
