The Festival of Fame, which is staged by the National School of the Arts (NSA) every year, is back to dazzle Joburg arts lovers.
The festival, in its eighth year, runs from May 11 to 17 and features dance, drama and music productions.
It will take place at the NSA, Alexander Theatre, Fringe Theatre at Johannesburg Civic Theatre and at Space.com.
The festival encompasses a variety of performances, workshops and exhibitions and showcases the talents of young people, up-and-coming stars and established artists.
Among the festival's highlights is Footloose, to be performed at the Alexander Theatre. It is directed by Tiffany Hocking and Shaye Webb.
There will also be an Art of Shadow exhibition at the NSA gallery, featuring the art of Shadow Puppetry, creating and manipulating 3D shadows, colour, paper cut-outs and landscapes.
The classical ballet piece from Carmen, arranged and directed by Manuel Norambuena, will be accompanied by the NSA Orchestra under the baton of Susan Swart.
James Cairns will be performing his piece Rat. Mickey, an Irish backpacker in Eastern Cape, is obsessed with Vietnam war films - a show that will provoke the most debate among learners and teachers.
Theatre lovers can look forward to shows such as Waiting for Thandiwe, Frogs, Bafana Republic, Rea Rangaka, Between the Cup and the Lip, Title 13, Lejwe, Weekend Special and Rob van Vuuren is Ronvan Wuren, among others.
Poet Ntsiki Mazwai, pictured, and hip-hop singer MaXhoba are bringing Azanian Love Song to the festival. It is a three-part musical showcase inspired by Don Mattera's poem.
The Sibikwa Arts Centre will take you on an adventure through the delights of African Song and Dance with a production called Imbumba.
Tickets for learners are R50, and are available from the NSA Festival office or at Computicket.
