South African steeplechaser Ruben Ramolefi is simply the best.
He has proved his mettle locally and is now eager to make a mark internationally.
Ramolefi reconfirmed his qualification for the IAAF World Championships when he won the 3000m steeplechase in the fifth leg of the Yellow Pages Series meeting in Stellenbosch on Friday.
He surpassed the IAAF A-qualifying standard with a time of 8min:22,74sec, 20 seconds ahead of second-placed Sikhumbuzo Seme.
Ramolefi first booked himself a ticket to the world event scheduled for Berlin, Germany, in August, by winning the same event in the third leg of the series in Durban last month.
The articulate steeplechaser and final-year BA Law student at the University of Johannesburg, will also be among a horde of athletes who will battle it out in the final leg of the series in Germiston on Friday night.
Ramolefi, who reached the final of the 3 000m steeplechase at the Beijing Olympics, will compete in the 1 500 in Germiston.
"I'm trying to compete in different races because these are the events that I will compete in in the European circles. I'm happy with my preparations for Berlin," said Ramolefi, who also competes in the 800m.
Other athletes who have qualified for Berlin through the series are long jumpers Khotso Mokoena and Janice Josephs, and javelin thrower Sunette Viljoen.
