Rapper Snoop Dogg cemented his status as a member of the Nation of Islam by making his first appearance at the movement's annual Saviours' Day convention at the weekend.

Snoop Dogg - real name Calvin Broadus - clapped and nodded as he listened to a speech from the controversial Louis Farrakhan at the event in Rosemont, Illinois, on Sunday.

The star was full of praise for Farrakhan, urging others to consider following the movement.

He told reporters: "When you get a speech from Farrakhan it's about a mirror, it's about looking at yourself. It's about seeing yourself and what you can do to better the situation ... we're doing a lot of wrongs among ourselves that need correcting."

When asked if he planned to convert to the Nation of Islam, Broadus maintained he had already joined: "I'm already in the Nation, that's why I'm here. I'm an advocate for peace. I've been in the peace movement ever since I've been making music. - Wenn
