Classical music group Rand Symphony Orchestra is billed to deliver a delightful performance on March 1 at The Brightwater Commons, Randburg.
The 45-member orchestra that has been performing for the past 20 years will entertain audiences with an array of light classical and jazz numbers.
The orchestra will include in their repertoire popular classics such as Schubert's Military March, Johann Strauss' Radetzky March, and Franz Lehár's Gold and Silver Marches.
The programme will also include a solo performance by Sergio Zampoli on an accordion as well as a debut performance by the Rand Brass quintet who'll be performing a movement from Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusiek.
Those who enjoy the sound of violins, violas, cellos, flutes, clarinets, trumpets and percussion in one set will converge to Brightwater Commons in numbers.
The Rand Symphony Orchestra started off as a chamber orchestra but was later extended to include wind, brass and percussion sections under the leadership of Chris Boyle.
In 1987, Bernard Wozny became musical director and took the orchestra to new heights, enabling it to perform many varied programmes enjoyed by both orchestra members and audiences alike.
In 1988, the Orchestra received subsidies from the Randburg City Council, and then changed its name to the Randburg City Orchestra.
After 20 years of performing under this name, the Orchestra changed its name to the Rand Symphony Orchestra, linking with its original roots and in keeping with the changes in Johannesburg. The group has performed with well-known local and international orchestras.
