Capricorn fires Mbatha, Ngobeni

Capricorn FM has removed from the air two of its popular presenters who are believed to be on the way back to the SABC.

Skhumbuzo Mbatha and Ike Ngobeni will no longer be heard on Limpopo's hottest station after they tendered their resignations last Friday.

Sources say the two have been given "better offers by the public broadcaster".

Ironically, they were both fired by the SABC before they were given a lifeline by the province's only commercial radio station.

At Capricorn, Ngobeni presented the midday slot - The Switch - while Mbatha did the afternoon drive time show - The Immaculate Drive.

Mbatha's departure also comes shortly after his dramatic arrest on drunk driving charges at the weekend.

Capricorn FM's programmes manager Shonisani Muleya confirmed yesterday that management had decided to take Mbatha and Ngobeni off air.

The said the two have already been replaced.

The station could however not confirm whether the replacements - Ntsieni Ramabulana, aka Big Daddy, who takes over the midday slot and Nduduzo Mathambo, aka DJ Complexion, will do the afternoon drive show - were permanent on these shows.

"I confirm that the two have been taken off air and have been replaced with those who are equally talented," said Muleya yesterday.

He said this was after a recommendation by the station's human resources department which was "still dealing with other issues".
