Reports of election-linked sporadic violence between contending political parties in KwaZulu-Natal have emerged .

But as allegations and counter-allegations about who was responsible for the violence flew back and forth between parties, the exact incidents could not be fully confirmed by Saturday night.

Violence was reported in the Nseleni area, northern KwaZulu-Natal, between the IFP and the ANC.

This came after the Pietermaritzburg high court on Saturday granted an interdict preventing the IFP from holding a rally mere metres away from the ANC's rally in the area yesterday.

The IFP's national organiser, Albert Mncwango, pictured, said its councillor Simon Mhlongo's house was shot at and petrol-bombed by the ANC members.

"ANC members are misconstruing the court order that IFP members must be evicted from Nseleni today, so when tomorrow comes [there will be] no IFP".

Mncwango said the IFP would submit "comprehensive documents" to the Independent Electoral Commission today in response to ANC allegations about the party.

But ANC provincial secretary Senzo Mchunu said the allegations that an IFP councillor' s house was petrol-bombed were false. Mchunu instead said he had heard reports that four cars carrying ANC members, who were busy with "mobilisation", had been attacked in the area.

Mchunu said the ANC would also report the matter to the IEC today. - Sapa
