Safa and the PSL will this week unveil a new global tournament in honour of former president Nelson Mandela.

The Mandela Peace Challenge will be launched in Phokeng on March 28 where Bafana Bafana welcome the Drillos of Norway at Royal Bafokeng Stadium with the return match dates still to be announced.

The other two South African Nobel Peace Laureates, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and FW de Klerk and President Kgalema Motlanthe dsare involved in the event.

A delegation from South Africa, which included the PSL top brass and Madiba's grandson, Inkosi Mandla Mandela, have already been to Norway for a series of meetings.

The delegation also met Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and the leadership of the Nobel Peace Committee as part of the preparations for this historic game.

PSL were represented by chairman, Irvin Khoza, chief executive officer, Kjetil Siem, who incidentally, is from Norway and general manager Andile Ncobo.

Outgoing Safa president Molefi Oliphant also attended.

For security reasons, details of the game and dignitaries to be invited to the match have been kept under wraps hoever more light will be shed at the Wednesday media briefing.

The Nobel Peace Committee leadership will also be here in South Africa during that week for a conference, a milestone achievement for the organisers.

The international match will also showcase South Africa's readiness for the Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup, the two quadrennial tournaments making their debut in Africa.

Part of the proceeds will be used for peace initiatives like the reintegration of people displaced after last year's xenophobic attacks.

It has also been established that the process will culminate in the formation of a structure known as Football for Peace Foundation South Africa.

The foundation, which will include top soccer administrators and the Nobel Peace Laureates, government and business, will be launched at the peace conference.

Mandla Mandela has already accepted an invitation to serve as one of the trustees.

Funds raised by the foundation will be used for peace initiatives.
