Smart Mindz turns three

Smart Young Mindz, the peerless campaign that nurtures future scientists, engineers and technologists, marks its third year with a gala in Johannesburg.

Smart Young Mindz, the peerless campaign that nurtures future scientists, engineers and technologists, marks its third year with a gala in Johannesburg.

Open to Gauteng students in Grades 8, 9 and 10, the campaign is a corporate social investment and responsibility programme of Blue IQ and the Gauteng government.

It is supported by Gauteng's education department and Sowetan. The latter have made Smart Young Mindz a part of the youth development activities of the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.

The campaign aims at stimulating interest in students in fields learning areas or subjects including mathematics, physical science, technology and entrepreneurship.

Participating pupils are encouraged to submit smart business ideas through a yearly competition.

Also, Smart Young Mindz motivates participants to investigate problems, wants and needs in their communities and to generate ideas for products or services that will fill gaps in the market and become commercially viable. - Victor Mecoamere
