With a new role in the SABC2 series Hopeville, film and television star Leleti Khumalo hopes to revive her ailing acting career.
Khumalo last appeared on television last year when her contract with daily soapie Generations was not extended. She is part of the star-studded mini-series that start on Tuesday at 7.30pm.
The Sarafina star will be acting alongside Desmond Dube, Terry Pheto, Fana Mokoena, Mary Twala and Glen Gabela, among others. In the series, Khumalo plays the character of Florence.
When asked for comment about her new role, Khumalo refused to talk.
"I don't have time to talk to journalists. I'm too busy.
"You guys don't think about us, you only think about your deadlines," she said before dropping the phone.
Khumalo left Generations in June last year because Mfundi Vundla "wanted to make way for new talent".
After that she kept a low profile and resurfaced in Duma Ndlovu's theatre production, The Game.
The show ran at Durban's Playhouse Theatre in August as part of the Women's Festival.
Born in KwaMashu in Durban, Khumalo made a name in theatre and film versions of her former husband Mbongeni Ngema's production, Sarafina.
She also acted in the Oscar-nominated film Yesterday, by Darryl Roodt.
