The South African Congress for Early Childhood Development holds its national rally at the Oppenheimer Theatre in Welkom, Free State.

Today the rally will examine the state of early childhood development in the country and profile the challenges and experiences of practitioners.

Chief executive Leonard Saul said the rally will also shed light on the progress made by the national education department and other stakeholders towards meeting the targets of 945000 Grade R children by 2010.

Saul said they will also discuss subsidies and the role social workers play in assisting centres regarding the subsidy scheme.

He said the congress will hold a national executive committee meeting at ECD House in Pretoria on March 27 and 28, and urged "all provinces to submit their plans of action for the ECD Week of Action taking place in September 2009". - Victor Mecoamere
