The Limpopo department of roads and transport has announced plans to end the long-standing taxi feuds engulfing the Marble Hall area.

MEC Cassel Mathale this week dispatched a task team to investigate the source of the conflicts in the area. It is the latest intervention to broker peace in the industry.

During his meeting with various taxi associations on Tuesday, Mathale came out with a solution to the long-standing impasse between the associations.

The task team comprised members of the Mehlareng, Moganyaka, Kopanang, Marble Hall, Masemola, Tsimanyane and Mowe taxi associations as well as officials of the department.

Among the recommendations Mathale made were that the taxi associations should merge into one.

He said this would ensure there was no cheating in terms of transporting the right passengers to their respective destinations.

Mathale said the Moganyaka, Kopanang and Marble Hall taxi associations had agreed to withdraw the letter they had written to the minister of transport Jeff Radebe in which they raised dissatisfaction about the manner in which their problems were handled.

He also expressed appreciation of the associations' "positive" attitude in seeking solutions to problems.

Dirkie Mahlokwane, chairman of the Marble Hall taxi association, confirmed that they had agreed to resolve the impasse and were looking forward to a smooth working relationship among all associations in the area.
