A Sandringham woman broke into tears as she described how she fought her way out of being raped and was subsequently shot three times.

She was testifying in a case in which Ananias Mathe faces 73 counts including rape, attempted rape, housebreaking and armed robbery.

The woman said she was woken up by a torch light shining on her face on December 2, 2002.

"The man said he was going to rape me and started unzipping his pants. I kicked the arm which was holding the gun.

"He shot me and pulled me out of bed. I pushed him out of the burglar gate and locked it. He shot me twice again," she said.

The trial continues.
