A prominent ANC Youth League official continues to draw a salary from a government department more than 12 months after quitting his job.
Frans Moswane resigned in November 2007 but was loaded back into the payroll of the Limpopo department of economic development, environment and tourism.
He is presently employed as spokesman for the Sekhukhune district municipality mayor, Dickson Masemola.
"After quitting the job I stopped using that bank account and my girlfriend started using it. I only noticed payments a month after I quit but I was under the impression that they were paying my bonuses," he said this week.
The department is also unable to explain how it continued to pay Moswane, the ANCYL's secretary in the Sekhukhune region.
Moswane was earning R11 000 a month as a business inspector.
An official in human resource said Moswane had received a salary over the past 14 months. He said Moswane owed the department more than R150 000.
Moswane has confirmed that the department wants its money from him.
"I am prepared to pay them back," he said.
Sowetan also understands that the department is not bringing any criminal charges against anyone at this stage.
The chairman of the development forum in Sekhukhune, advocate Mphafolane Koma, has lodged a complaint with the Special Investigating Unit.
The league's provincial chair- man Lehlohonolo Masoga also blamed the department.
At the time of going to print, records at the department showed that Moswane was scheduled to receive yet another salary next week.
