A rural school in Limpopo has become one of the latest beneficiaries of the Vodacom Foundation's Yebo Millionaires.

The cellphone company this week donated computers to the school to help take the education of pupils and teachers to a higher level.

Makgefola Primary School at Matshelapata village, near Boyne, received 10 computers, a server, printer, cartridges and educational software.

It is one of 21 schools in the province to receive such a donation. The company has made similar donations to more than 100 schools countrywide since 2005.

Situated 35km east of Polokwane, Makgefola Primary caters for more than 450 pupils from Grade R to Grade 7.

Principal Ruth Thema said the computer centre would benefit the whole community.

"We are thankful and excited about the blessing Vodacom has given us. It will bring a lot of positive changes, not only to our school but also to the whole village," Thema said.

She said the computers would help the teachers teach the pupils skills that were "necessary in today's world".

"We are confident that our pupils will become conversant with using computers so that when they reach university level, a whole new world opens to them.

"Once the pupils are computer literate, they will be able to teach the elders how to use the computers," she said.

Joe Dlamini, Vodacom's managing executive of the Limpopo region, said: "Vodacom is committed to investing in such facilities in the communities where our customers live. This is done as a way of saying 'thank you' to our customers for helping to make our business a success."
