Valentine's Day celebrations on Saturday morning were cut short for the Matsepe family in Vleisboom, Groblersdal, Limpopo, when their mother was shot dead by her jealous boyfriend.

Barely an hour after the incident, the alleged killer, Foreman Reuben Mohlala, 36, went to a secluded place where he shot and killed himself.

The incident happened when lovers were celebrating Valentine's Day.

Inspector Abel Aviva Magolego identified the deceased as Regina Makgoba Matsepe, 31 .

Magolego said the deceased was drinking with two men in her house when the incident happened.

He said the deceased was in the toilet when a man came into the house and allegedly found two men in her bedroom.

"He asked them where the woman was and they told him she had gone to the toilet.

"When she came back, the manshot her several times in the head and she died instantly.

"He later turned the gun on himself," Magolego said

In a separate incident, also in Groblersdal, a quarrel between two groups ended tragically when a youth's throat was slit.

The incident took place during a drinking spree at a Valentine's Day bash at the Mostorloos village in Sekhukhune.

The deceased, Sphiso Machika, 20, allegedly went to the other group and took a beer from a girl.

A fight broke out and one man in the group drew a panga and slit Machika's throat, who died on the spot.

"When we arrived at the scene Machika was dead and there was no sign of the assailant.

"We arrested two suspects a few minutes later," said Magolego.

The suspects will appear in court today on charges of murder.
