Ann Mabatimi Matlawe-Khatle's life is a story which most people can easily relate to.

It is a story of a young woman from Soweto who struggles to make her dreams come true.

Her dreams are simple: to get a degree, get married to a handsome, intelligent man, have kids and write a book about her life. Her courage and faith in God takes her through a path of life filled with mistakes, struggles and adversity.

Matlawe-Khatle was raised by loving parents in a Christian home. Her father died at the age of 59 and she was then raised by her mom who she says was "prayerful".

But things took a huge turn when Matlawe-Khatle's mother was admitted to hospital in 2004 after she was paralysed from her waist down.

Her condition deteriorated and she she died on February 21 2004 at the age of 84.

Matlawe-Khatle was raised in a poor family and became the first one in the family to go to a boarding school in 1979.

By then, she was already a born-again Christian.

At Baitshoki High School she started in Grade 11 and that is where her leadership acumen was developed.

The year 1980 was a good one except that she failed matric.

The following year she moved to Thutolore High School, where she easily passed her exams.

With few career options, Matlawe-Khatle applied to a nursing college. While waiting for acceptance from the college, she worked at Lister Building Laboratories as an assistant lab technician.

While at the lab Matlawe-Khatle's love for nursing grew so much that she applied to Lebone College - and was accepted.

But at the nursing college, she fell in love with a pastor who she discovered was engaged to another church member.

With a broken heart, Matlawe-Khatle failed her first year at college - aged 23 - and had to go back home.

She later joined Grace Bible Church in Soweto where she was a leader of the intercessory group. But her zeal for God caused her to disregard the importance of education in her life.

Besides education, she also wanted a man in her life.

Finally, she found the love of her life, Tony, who she married on September 22 1990.

The couple are blessed with two girls, Lerato and Kamogelo.

After all she has been through, the story ends with the realisation of her dream.
