This is not only a reasonable proposal that all South Africans who fully support an independent judiciary should support, but it is unfair to have an attorney-general who is a political appointee.

Sapu would also like to call upon those in authority to seriously consider appointing the national police commissioner from among the ranks of the serving policemen and women.

We fail to understand the logic of appointing a civilian in a military establishment. We don't have a problem having a civilian minister as a political head, but to have a civilian administrative head in the police does not make any sense. The head of the police should be from within the force.

We need someone with a policing background to be at the helm of the police. The so-called political considerations do not help the situation as they are irrelevant.

The police are only loyal to the constitution of South Africa. Therefore there is no need to appoint a national police commissioner with political ties to a ruling party because all police are apolitical.

By this we are just exercising one of the fundamental rights in our Constitution - freedom of speech.
