But this year's win did not come as easily as his last win, though he is almost untouchable on the uphills.
"I outran them all on the uphills but they kept coming back at me on the flats and downhills," Raphotle said.
"This guy [John Mainawachira] is fast. I only managed to get away from him with two kilometres to go but I only managed to shake Albert [Koao] off with 100 metres to go.
"This year it was a tough win. I only raced this as a build-up to Two Oceans and my time was almost the same as the last win."
Koao (Nedbank) was second in 2:24:33 and Sipho Ncube (Mr Price) third in 2:24:55.
In the celebrity ranks 702 talk show host Redi Direko continued her training for a second Comrades Marathon with a fine finish in the marathon.
Morning Live's Vuyo Mbuli easily completed the half marathon.
The women's race dished up it's fair share of surprises. Alberton veteran Louise Oosthuizen ran a near perfect race to win in 3:10:47, with Kenyan Jennifer Koech (Nedbank) second.
Her teammate Lesley Train finished third in a time of 3:20:18.
In the half marathon the imports ruled with Kenyan Wesley Ruto (Toy) first in 66:13, followed by Ethiopian Degene Asafa (ADT) in 66:34 and the first local lad, Lucky Mohale (GS) in 67:37.
The women's half marathon Zimbabwean Olivia Chitate (Bashewa) was first across the line in 83:30, followed by countrywoman Chiyedza Chokore (MP) on 84:49.
The first South African, first veteran and third overall placing went to Sarah Mahlangu (Mr Price) in 91:05. - Sapa
