Surprise Moriri's brace last night against Bidvest Wits fired Mamelodi Sundowns to the second spot on the Absa Premiership log and The Brazilians are now counted among strong contenders for the championship.

Moriri's goals were well-received by the chanting Masandawana as Downs emerged 2-0 victors of this lukewarm Absa Premiership match at Super Stadium in Atteridgeville.

The Students were let down by their defenders who did nothing to stop Moriri scoring in the third minute.

Moriri's free header easily beat goalie Darren Keet after a long pass from Siboniso Gaxa on the right flank.

Esrom Nyandoro came close to getting the second, but his long-range scorcher went just wide in the 29th minute.

Roger de Sa started the match with his trusted forward Phikolethu Spelman on the bench. He only brought him in the 60th minute but he could not score.

Moriri cemented Downs' win with another header in the 75th minute to once again put a smile on the faces of their supporters and French coach Henri Michel.
