Scandal actress Nthati Moshesh, who lost her mother Adelaide Notumata Moshesh this week after a short illness, said her mother was her anchor in life.
She said the reality of the loss had not yet sunk in because her mother's death was so sudden.
Moshesh's mother, who trained as a social worker, died on Saturday at Albert Union Hospital in Alberton, south of Johannesburg.
She was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital on Friday after suffering from a burst vein in the brain.
She was 66 years old and had been working for a non-governmental organisation since she retired as a social worker last year.
"We are all trying to come to terms with the loss and this huge loss has not yet sunk in" said Moshesh. "Personally, I have not yet absorbed the reality and the effects of the loss.
"This loss came as a surprise to the whole family because my mother was never in hospital her entire life, and regularly went to the gym - even in the same week that she died," said the talented actress.
Nthati was a nominee for the Best Actress Award for her role as Morongwa on the e.tv soapie Scandal.
The funeral service will be held today at St Francis of Assisi Church in Hart Avenue at Meyersdal, Alberton, from 9am.
She will be buried at Krom- vlei Cemetery.
Moshesh is survived by her husband, three daughters, two sons and seven grandchildren.
