Chikane shames Cope on its lies

There is something very wrong about Cope. Yesterday they told the nation that DG in the Presidency, Frank Chikane, was their candidate for Gauteng premier.

There is something very wrong about Cope. Yesterday they told the nation that DG in the Presidency, Frank Chikane, was their candidate for Gauteng premier.

Cope's guidelines for nominations states: "A person should be a fully paid-up member with no criminal record after 1994."

So I wondered if Chikane, and a dozen others who have been mentioned repeatedly in the media, are members. Then Chikane said that he is not a member.

Lest we forget, the very same Cope told the media that they have more than half a million members all over the country. Can South Africans honestly believe that Cope is what it says it is?

Not long ago, Mosiuoa Lekota lied with a straight face that ANC veteran Fatima Meer had joined Cope. Meer said that it was a lie.

I don't have a problem with Cope, but my concern is, why do they want to build their credibility by falsifying support. This should worry the electorate, particularly since Cope is a product of people who were rejected by their own in Polokwane.

People who are Cope members should come out of the closet and confess to the nation.

Former president Thabo Mbeki should advise Cope leaders to tell no lies and claim no easy victories.
