The government's principal concern, expressed by Minerals and Energy Minister Buyelwa Sonjica, is job preservation.

Addressing the Mining Indaba in Cape Town yesterday, Sonjica made a plea to the mining industry for jobs to be retained.

In exchange, she pointed to the state's spending on transport infrastructure, expenditure that is expected to improve the ability of mines to operate. - Jim Jones
