Afro-pop singer and television actress Kelly Khumalo has proved that she is not just a pretty face on our television screen.
Taking her newly discovered acting hobby to another level, Khumalo has landed her first role in a musical theatre called Motown Magic.
The show that boasts a star-studded cast opens at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, on April 22. Khumalo will be acting alongside Lucia Mthiyane, Tracey-Lee Oliver and Tsepo Desando, among others.
The show is a revitalised version of the 2002 blockbuster stage show, Motown Gold. This spectacular musical celebration is a compilation show that tells the story behind the hits of Motown and shows how these timeless classics are still very much alive today.
"I am very excited and also a little-bit scared because it is my first time. Since I will be acting with people who have experience I have to double my efforts. I will also be singing."
Contrary to what has been said that Khumalo was just a talking head on Rhythm City where she acted with Mthiyane, she told Sowetan that people have not seen anything yet.
"You have been overlooking what I can offer this industry. I am talented vocally. The show will prove how talented I am."
On her acting career, Khumalo said before she joined Rhythm City she had never imagined herself as an actress.
"I was fortunate to have been approached by the soapie and I guess they were looking for someone who knows the industry. Since then I am enjoying myself."
