If people were to vote on the basis of Sunday night's SABC debate on the economy and labour, I think the Independent Democrats would be the government.

If people were to vote on the basis of Sunday night's SABC debate on the economy and labour, I think the Independent Democrats would be the government.

ID representative Lance Greyling, pictured, fared better than the DA, Cope and the ANC, which was represented by Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana.

I thought Greyling's arguments were informed by understanding of the current global economic downturn and the reality of South Africa's conditions.

He showed much maturity as reflected in the ID's policy compared to the rhetoric of "the tried and tested government" blurted out by the minister.

The pragmatism with which he approached questions from the facilitator is what South Africa needs and for that he's earned the ID my vote.
