President Kgalema Motlanthe has demanded a retraction and apology from Sunday World newspaper following the publication of what he refers to as "a series of serious and false allegations" about his love life.

The paper published two articles, on February 1 and 8, detailing Motlanthe's "secret love affair" with a 24-year-old woman, Kelebogile Makoe.

The paper's editor Charles Mogale said yesterday:

"We are distressed about the matter because we gave the presidency every opportunity to refute Makoe's claims

"They did not take up the offer to either confirm or refute the allegations. We will seek legal advice."
