Parliament is rushing to pass laws to allow Merafong to be moved back from the North West to Gauteng before the elections.

In 2005, the government moved Merafong into North West, but after Khutsong residents boycotted the 2006 local government elections and threatened not to vote in this year's elections, the government did an about-turn.

Now parliament must pass the constitutional 16th amendment and the cross-boundaries laws repeal and related matters amendment bills to reverse the decision.
