The Secunda circuit court has set aside five days for the trial of five people charged with the murder of Govan Mbeki municipality deputy mayor Thandi Mtsweni in June 2007.

Florence Lukhele, Sikhosiphe Gwala, Themba Ntombela, Neo Moloi and Madoda Nkambule are are to appear before the Secunda circuit of the Pretoria high court from March 30 to April 3.

Except for Nkambule, who is out on R10000 bail, the rest are behind bars pending their court appearance.

Mpumalanga police organised crime unit commander Senior Superintendent Obed Ngwenya said the director of public prosecutions had directed that the trial should take place in the high court.

The five were arrested together with Mayor Sipho Nkosi, who has since been released because of lack of evidence.

Mtsweni was shot dead on June 27 when she arrived home at night with her husband and 14-year-old son.
