Moroka Swallows out to silence The Ghost

Moroka Swallows might be outnumbered in the stands when they face Orlando Pirates on Sunday, but that will not affect their intensity on the pitch .

This is according to the Birds' general manager Sipho Xulu yesterday, ahead of this original Soweto derby at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg at 3.30pm.

While Xulu said they can still compete for a win against the Buccaneers without enough backing from their supporters, Bucs' publicist Mickey Modisane knows the importance of having their 12th player on the stands for such a crunch match.

The Ghost outnumbered Swallows fans on the stands when Pirates pipped them 1-0 in the first round at Ellis Park. Modisane acknowledge their contribution to the win, and promised that they would ensure that they come in droves again to give them an extra spur on Sunday.

"We are arranging with our branches to see how they can send more supporters to this match. We are well aware that it will not be easy against Swallows who are on a high and we can't afford to leave anything to chance," Modisane said.

Said Xulu: "We have been around for long enough not to be intimidated by supporters from the opponents. We can cope under any circumstances in this league. But of course, as the hosts of this match, we would have loved to have our supporters in big numbers to root for the players."

The Beautiful Birds, guided by Julio Leal, go into this tie on the back of two crucial wins. They won their Soweto derby against their other traditional rivals Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at the same venue on Saturday.

They went into this encounter with their heads high after claiming the scalps of Ajax Cape Town by the same scoreline.

People are urged to buy tickets early at Computicket outlets and at Shoprite-Checkers stores.

Xulu said only 13 000 tickets will be sold for the match, adding that they were busy with the arrangements for entertainment.
