Listeners of Munghana Lonene FM, which broadcasts in Xitsonga, have lots to look forward to this month.

The Limpopo-based SABC radio station is celebrating its 44th birthday.

To mark this milestone, the station will feature former announcers on some programmes andone lucky Valentine's couple will win an all-expenses paid holiday. There are also television sets and microwaves to be won.

Munghana Lonene FM was born on February 1 1965 in Joburg. In 1976 it moved to Polokwane, then Petersburg.

Station manager Tsakani Baloyi said: "I'm very proud to be part of this successful family. I joined in June last year and it feels like I have been here for 44 years."

A highlight was a visit by the station to Mozambique last year to host a very successful music festival. The proceeds were donated to the Red Cross in Mozambique.

"We have achieved a lot and our presenters are recognised nationally as award winners," said marketing manager James Shikwambana, pictured.

Former presenters who will entertain listeners include Elizabeth Maluleke, Hlayiseka Robert Khosa, Mapule Mbhalati and Jerry Sukumani.
