A Standard Bank ATM in Thulamahashe near Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, was blown up in the early hours of Friday morning.

Criminals managed to flee with all the cash from the machine.

It was the first time that an ATM was bombed at the Thulamahashe shopping complex where two other banks, FNB and Absa, also have ATMs.

The complex's security guards told the Mhala police that they heard a loud bang at about 2am but became confused as to what had happened.

It was only a few minutes later that they discovered that an ATM had been blown up, causing extensive damage to the machine, the ceiling and some glass walls of the bank next to the ATMs

There are about four ATMs in the complex but the robbers only chose one.

Mhala police spokesman Constable Robert Makhubele said no arrests had been made. Investigations are continuing.
