People lining up for treatment at Mpumalanga's third biggest hospital, Rob Ferreira, continue to complain about long queues - but the provincial department insists they should first go to clinics closer to their homes.

Sowetan was inundated with calls from would-be patients at the hospital's out patients department on Tuesday night complaining that they had arrived in the morning but had "still not been attended to".

People say many clinics have been without adequate medication over recent months - and that is why they were forced to f lock to the state hospital.

Department spokesman Mpho Gabashane told Sowetan that clinics must be used first unless there was an emergency.

"The hospital has appointed 36 interns and 12 medical officers as part of our continuous efforts to improve service delivery and clinical care."
