Bus commuters, including pupils, were left stranded when a KwaZulu-Natal bus operator suspended its service over the non-payment of government subsidies.
The Thokomala bus service yesterday suspended its operations indefinitely, with immediate effect, leaving its workers and commuters in the dark.
The company says it needs a subsidy of R730000 a month in order to continue operation.
National Department of Transport spokesman Collen Msibi said there is a R1,2billion shortfall owing between December last year and March, when they receive the new bus subsidy for the next financial year.
