Three men who terrorised Mpumalanga villagers in 2002 were yesterday sentenced to life in prison.

Robert Mosomane, 30, Ephraim Sello Mabuela, 33, and Jack Ramaselaga Mpelele, 30, were found guilty on all six counts of armed robbery, two of attempted murder and rape by the Mmabatho high court sitting in Hammanskraal.

They were sentenced to life in prison on rape charges, five years for attempted murder, five years for being in possession of an unlawful firearm and 12 months each for unlawful possession of ammunition.

The three evaded police for nearly a year after committing crimes in Mpumalanga. They were arrested in 2002 in Alexandra, Johannesburg. The convicts were involved in numerous cases of house breaking in the Seabe village in KwaMhlanga, raping women they found in the houses at gunpoint and then stealing all belongings.
