Talks between the Independent Electoral Commission in Limpopo and Moutse Demarcation Forum is in a bid to have an incident-free voter registration this weekend are continuing.

This follows threats by residents in the area that they will not participate in the weekend voter registration if it is handled by the Limpopo IEC.

The chief electoral commissioner for Limpopo, Nkaro Mateta, said they were about to reach consensus with the people of Moutse, especially at Elandsdoorn township.

The IEC had serious problems during the first voter registration in November last year in that township.

"The aim of our discussions with the forum is to convince community leaders to allow those who would like to register to do so, so that they will be able to exercise their rights by voting during elections this year," she said.

Residents earlier announced that they will only participate in the voter registration process if it was conducted by the IEC in Mpumalanga province.

Mateta told Sowetan that law enforcement agencies will be standing by to make sure the registration process goes on smoothly.

"We think everything will be fine," Mateta said.
