Carlette Muller's alleged racist antics highlight just how painful and humiliating it still is to be black and poor in this country.
I shudder to think how many children's futures she has destroyed in her "illustrious" career. People like Muller, H H Schmidt, the Ventersdorp doctor who racially divides his patients and services, the Cabana Pub and Restaurant owner in Rietfontein that serves whites only and many other such people do not know how incredibly lucky they are to be living in this democracy after what the country went through.
Instead of embracing the miracle that made it possible to be part of a democracy by respecting the rights of all, they systematically perpetuate the same injustices that virtually put the country on the brink of civil war.
The Justice Department must ensure that Muller's conduct is thoroughly probed and that the cases she prosecuted are rigorously reviewed and re-heard. Children's rights shouldn't be maliciously violated and their lives deliberately shattered, especially by those assigned to ensure that justice is served without favour or prejudice.
