The indefinite strike by the Johannesburg metro police is unfortunate.

Metro police render an essential service to the public and such action is obviously going to adversely affect several operations in the city.

Certain testing and licensing stations would be closed, reckless drivers will have a field day and many accidents would not be attended to.

The SA Municipal Workers Union has warned that the action could soon affect other departments in the council.

Workers have a right to strike. Management also has a right not to bow to the union's demands if they deem them unreasonable.

Both parties are urged to urgently meet and amicably resolve the issues that have driven them apart.
