The very popular yearly Cape Town International Jazz Festival will celebrate its 10th birthday when it takes place on April 3 and 4.
As usual, 40 bands equally split between African and overseas artists, will perform on five stages - Rosies, Kippies, Mannenberg, Bassline and Moses Molelekoa.
Award-winning jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves, jazz-funk king Maceo Parker and smooth jazz guitarist Peter White are set to thrill jazz fans who will tap their feet to the sounds of John Coltrane disciple Dave Liebman, Miles Davis' drummer Al Foster, the super New York Voices, South African veteran drummer Maurice Gawronsky's quartet and actor-director Clint Eastwood's bassist son Kyle Eastwood.
Hoisting the flag high for home-grown infused jazz will be legendary trumpeter Hugh Masekela. He never fails to captivate his audience with his now famous get-downs. For a man hitting 70, he puts to shame youngsters with his agility. Also joining the local fray is vocalist Emily Bruce and bassist Jonathan Rubain.
Other local treats come in the form of Zap Mama - Mr Romance himself, Ringo Madlingozi, pictured, Freshlyground and Rus Nerwich's collective imagination.
The Stylistics, who have created lots of great times for decades for audiences worldwide, will be honoured. Dating back to 1968, acid-jazz group Incognito and Loading Zone of Cape Town, which will celebrate 20 years, will show what they are made of.
Tickets cost R330 for one day and R485 for both days. Concerts on the Rosies stage cost an additional R25.
