Komphela slams players

Free State Stars co-coach Steve Komphela reacted with dismay to his players' "carelessness" in their 1-all draw with Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership game played at Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem on Saturday.

While Wits coach Roger de Sa was happy with a point, Komphela was absolutely disgusted with mistakes made his players.

The former Ea lla Koto captain blamed lack of mental strength and carelessness for the result, especially in the second half.

The Students capitalised on such mistakes and duly levelled matters in the 78th minute through Calvin Kadi to cancel Sthembiso Ngcobo's 30th-minute goal.

He profited from a blunder by Siyabonga Mdluli, who gave away possession near the big box.

"I cannot be blamed for the players' madness and inability to execute a game plan. How do you take blame for such carelessness by the players?" asked Komphela.

The introduction of Jimmy Kauleza and Saitjheni Tsotetsi did not make any difference for Ea lla Koto, who missed golden chances in the first segment.

A clever move by De Sa to introduce Tebogo Langerman, Richard Rantjie and Sibusiso Mahlangu certainly worked wonders for the Clever Boys, who troubled the hosts for most of the second half.

The Wits mentor said: "We were lucky to get a point given the opposition's impressive record lately."
