Tidima Kekana is hoping to make a meaningful contribution for Softball South Africa's national squad at the World Championship in Canada in July.
Kekana has been drafted into the 17-member squad for the quadrennial softball fiesta in Saskatoon from July 18 to 27.
The squad was selected after the Gordon Monk Tournament in Kempton Park a fortnight ago.
The Moletlane Texas pitcher has been motivated by his good display when Simunye defended their Zone Six trophy last year.
He also performed fairly well at the Zeist Softball Tournament in Holland.
"I don't have any butterflies in my stomach going to big tournament anymore," said Kekana yesterday.
"We are not going to play against invisible opponents, but human beings like us. We have a number of experienced players in the team who will help us."
Seasoned campaigners in the team include Anthony Carr, Moses "VR6" Molaba, Gareth Scott and Duncan Small.
Head coach Tommy "TK" Kgomo said all his players have what it takes to contribute to the success of Simunye.
"We will request the association to organise a series of friendlies for the players to prepare for the championship. It will not be easy, but good preparations will help us," said Kgomo yesterday.
Undoubtedly one of the finest national coaches around, Kgomo said he will not put unnecessary pressure on his charges to win a medal in Canada.
"We are going out there to play our normal game, but surely we will not be like sheep to the slaughter," he warned.
