Huge prizes in Durban City Marathon

Over a million rand worth of prize money is on offer for the Nedbank Durban City Marathon on February 8.

Over a million rand worth of prize money is on offer for the Nedbank Durban City Marathon on February 8.

Athletics South Africa said the first prize for both men and women winners will be R100000, the second prize R50000 and the third prize R20000.

The 10km winners will each pocket R5 000, R4 000 for second place and R3500 for third place.

The wheelchair marathon race is one of the best-paying events on the continent with a first place of R60 000, second place R30 000 and third R15 000 to both Class T53/T54 and Class T51.

Only athletes entered in the South African Championships by their provinces will qualify for team prizes.

Cut off time for all races is five hours.

Top athletes entered include Eunice Nhlapo and Charne Bosman (women), and Benedict Moeng and George Mofokeng (men). - Sapa
