The Department of Sport has hit out at reports that it first issued regulations giving Minister Makhenkesi Stofile the power to decide members of national teams, and then withdrew the regulations after SA Rugby complained.
"The minister has no intention of selecting teams," spokesman Lerato Mogorosi said yesterday.
Earlier this week it was reported that Stofile had withdrawn new regulations which would have given him "the power to prescribe who should play flyhalf for the Springboks or open the bowling for the Proteas".
But Mogorosi said the regulations have not been withdrawn.
"There is nothing to withdraw. They are a draft that will be revised after we receive comments from sports federations."
