The community of Tshiawelo, Soweto, lost one of its political stalwarts when Rosemary Moyo died.

Moyo, 73, fell ill in December and died last Sunday at Baragwanath Hospital.

Many Soweto members of Azanian People's Organisation and the breakaway Socialist Party of Azaniawould gather at her home on weekends to share ideas.

Moyo used to ru n a transport service for Soweto's crèche-going children and cooked meals for factory workers in Aeroton, Johannesburg.

She had married her late husband, Philemon Moyo, whom she met in Sophiatown in the 1950s.

She will be sorely missed by her two sons Collin and Goodman, and daughter Emily.

Her neighbour and staunch Azapo member Dusty Nkoana described Moyo as "a straight-talking person who was upfront and honest".

The funeral service begins at 7.30am tomorrow at Phiri Hall, Soweto. The cortege proceeds to Avalon Cemetery at 10am.
