Professor Jonathan Jansen has been roped in as administrator of Mangosuthu University of Technology to bring back law and order to the troubled institution.

Jansen is expected to start work on Monday while a financial mismanagement probe against suspended vice-chancellor Professor Aaron Ndlovu is continuing. The probe is expected to be completed by March.

Mangosuthu council deputy chairman Judge Jerome Ngwenya said Minister of Education Naledi Pandor had appointed Jansen administrator of the university until the future of the head of the institution is decided.

This is not the first time that Jansen is appointed administrator at a troubled institution. In August 2006 Pandor deployed Jansen as administrator at the Durban University of Technology to restore governance and management structures.

Meanwhile, suspended Ndlovu and his lawyers appeared briefly in the Durban labour court yesterday in an attempt to force the institution to buy him a new 4x4 vehicle.

The proceeding was a low-key affair. The case was adjourned to March 26 to give Ndlovu's lawyers time to study the replying court papers from the university's lawyers.

They received the papers only yesterday.
