New York - US pop star Michael Jackson will help to develop his ground-breaking Thriller video into a musical theatre production, producers said this week.

Jackson's 1982 Thriller album is the world's biggest selling album and the theatre production will recreate the tale of the 14-minute horror film spoof. In the video, a young couple are on a date when the boy - played by Jackson - becomes a werewolf.

"The musical is the exclusive authorised version of Thriller and Jackson will participate in every aspect of it," said the Nederland Organisation, which has acquired the rights to the musical.

Jackson, 50, pictured, began his career with his siblings in the Jackson Five, but has been dogged by scandal. He was tried and acquitted of child sex abuse charges in 2005. - Reuters
