Organisers of the South African Tennis Open have lined up Israeli Dudi Sela to replace injured Frenchman Gael Monfils.

The tournament starts on Monday at Montecasino and Sela will join Monfils' countryman and world number seven Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Spain's David Ferrer, Fabrice Santoro and Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus among the top seeds.

This is the first full ATP World Tour event to be staged in South Africa since 1995. Organisers are holding their breath hoping that Tsonga finishes the Australian Open without further incident.

Sela, who possesses a powerful backhand, is ranked 106th in the world but in April last year he was ranked 57th. The 23-year-old's ranking is expected to shoot up next week after he reached the third round of the Australian Open.
