He knew it will happen at some point during the Yellow Pages Series, but South Africa's premier long jumper Khotso Mokoena's stunning 8.15m jump on Friday took him by surprise.

Mokoena said yesterday that he went to Potchefstroom's McArthur Stadium to see what kind of shape he was in at this time of the season, but never expected to reach his goal of qualifying for the IAAF World Championships in Germany in August.

"It is amazing that I did it - and good that it happened so early in the season. I have absolutely no reason of taking it easy though! There is still five more meetings for me," he said.

The Olympic superstar compared this performance to the distance he managed last year at exactly the same time where he jumped 7.15m.

Mokoena's fans still have five more venues where they can see him in action.
