Ecstatic woman gets a house

Riot Hlatshwayo

Agnes Mahlalela, a 30-year-old mother of three, was over the moon with happiness as she received keys to her new house from Bushbuckridge mayor, Milton Morema, on Saturday.

Mahlalela was one of 139 beneficiaries of Morema's people housing programme that is aimed at eliminating the scourge of homelessness in Bushbuckridge.

Villagers gathered in two tents at the newly developed houses at Ximhungwe near Thulamahashe, where Morema also asked potential voters to vote for the ANC.

Out of 281 houses, Morema officially handed over 139 houses which he said were ready for occupation.

Mahlalela, the first beneficiary, said she was relieved to have a house because she never believed that was possible until after Morema officially handed the house to her.

Morema also told the crowd that ANC president Jacob Zuma would be the president of the country after the elections.

"Courts or no courts, JZ is going to be our president. Vote ANC and don't follow the 'Congress of the Puppets'," he said in reference to Cope.

Morema added that from today the municipality would start installing water taps.
